Horticulture Dept organizes farmers awareness camp

INDIA- Under the guidance of Director Horticulture Jammu, one- day farmer’s awareness camp was organized today by Horticulture Department at Panchayat Panjore, block Marh.

During the camp, Chief Horticulture officer S Sarbjit Singh explained about the incentive under all scheme of Horticulture Department. Organic farming was discussed in detail with the use of homemade pesticide for control of minor pest and disease of field crops.


Expert from SKUAST Jammu, Dr Brijeshwer Singh was also present there and he had close interactive session with farmers regarding litchi mango and peach crop. It was emphasized upon the farmers that during planting of fresh litchi plants, at least 1 kg of soil from the old litchi orchard should be mixed in pits so, as to have better survival.


District Horticulture Officer Vijay Angurana explained that it is high time to plant new grape vines. He explained that one feet long one year old cutting having four alive buds could be planted in kitchen garden. While planting cutting two alive buds should be immersed in the soil and the two should be left out for sprouting, he added.


While addressing, Sanjeev Kurlupia (DLSMS Entomology) talked about diseases and pest prevalent in guava litchi and other fruit crops. His main focus was on control of fruit fly prevalent crops in these areas. Pardeep Gupta explained various schemes of the department to all participants and emphasized on taking maximum benefit of these scheme.


Before concluding, 250 best quality litchi plants were distributed to the participants. Horticulture Development Officer, of the area Pardeep Dingra presented formal vote of thanks. Sarpanch Sham Lal also spoke on the occasion.
