How a renovated K-Mart became home to Ohio's premier cultivator

Cincinnati has long been known as “The Queen City.” Yet, in 2023, a new potentate came to town. Since its opening, King City Gardens has conquered the hearts of cannabis patients and enthusiasts with bespoke craft strains rooted in excellence. Ohio’s premier cultivation facility is nothing short of a fantasy castle: 25,000 square feet of ultra-modern grow space, including seven double-stacked rooms with roughly 2,000 plants apiece. A single stack room with 2,000 plants uses hydraulic systems to raise and lower Fluence VYPR LEDs to provide greater light intensity and spectra quality. Massive, fairy-tale-sized buds are eating up the “astronomical” PPFD in this VYPR room.

As a new level one facility in Ohio, King City Gardens emphasizes craft cannabis at scale. Under the leadership of Richard Mursinna, Director of Operations with a PhD in biochemistry, and Justin Matherly, Director of Grow Operations with 23 years of cultivation experience, their experienced team applies best practices and technology to achieve this difficult goal; yet, like any art form, growing cannabis requires a delicate human touch and slight tweaks at every step along the way.

Every kingdom is based on lineage, and King City Gardens is no different. Richard, Justin and their team began with the best genetics and tailored them to market demands, such as high potency, incredible flavor, and expressive terpenes. These are just some of the ways in which King City Gardens wears the crown of craft cannabis in The Queen City.
