Softer light and cooler summer with Harmony

In the heart of Yunnan’s Honghe region, growers are turning to advanced climate solutions to meet the needs of high-quality flower production. At the Kaiyuan Modern Agriculture Park, the use of Svensson’s Harmony screens is helping gerbera growers create a cooler, gentler environment—one that protects delicate petals, supports growth, and adapts to changing seasonal demands.

The total planned area of Kaiyuan Modern Agriculture Park is 666Ha, of which 386Ha has been built as of now. It is located in Honghe, Yunnan province, mainly for cultivation of high-quality flowers. There are 13 companies in the park, including Aibida, Fengdao, Lishen, etc. Walking through the demonstration hall, we can see the first-phase gerbera greenhouse from Honghe Chuangsen company.

“There are many advanced devices to help with the climate for gerbera flowers, including outside and inside screens from Svensson, and climate control and irrigation from Priva. In total, 100,000 pots are grown in the 2Ha greenhouse and 28 gerbera cultivars come from Dutch breeding company, Schreurs. The colors and appearances are unique and attractive.” Director of the management committee Mr. Cao explained.

Honghe is located in the Southeast of Yunnan Province, where the four seasons are not very clear but it does have dry and rainy season. The rainy period starts from June to August, so the real ‘summer’ should be from March to May when the climate is dry with strong radiation. Considering climate demand of Gerbera and greenhouse devices, two layers of diffuse Harmony shading screen were installed. The diffuse light is gentle and homogenous which helps to prevent burning petals and promote flower growth.
