Sunway XFarms to launch largest indoor vertical farm in Q3

KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway XFarms, a Malaysia based agritech company, plans to launch the largest indoor vertical farm in Kuala Lumpur by the third quarter of 2022.

The urban farm will occupy three floors, spanning 37,000 square feet, in Sunway Tower.

Chief operating officer Eleanor Choong said that with Sunway XFarms' launch in Sunway Tower, the company hoped to accelerate its commitment to scaling sustainable food production close to consumers.

"Sunway XFarms will be able to contribute towards Malaysia's food security, one seed at a time," said Choong.

The new vertical farm will produce at least 13,000 kilograms (kg) of fresh, healthy, and pesticide-free vegetables per month.

The produce is grown faster and healthier with significantly less wastage by leveraging precision farming technologies.

By using 90 per cent less water than traditional farming, XFarms can yield ten times more produce with less than five per cent on-farm wastage.

To ensure consistently high quality, produce is grown in a safe and controlled environment powered by a range of smart IoT sensors and cameras, which provide live analysis and information to the farm managers.

Since its inception, Sunway XFarms has nourished more than 1,800 families with over 15,000 kg of leafy vegetables grown and harvested right from the urban farm in Sunway's flagship smart sustainable city, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.
