The autonomous in-home micro-farming solution

The Dutch vertical farming startup FarmVent has developed an in-door micro-farming solution. It is an autonomous farm vending machine to make food production easier and closer to consumers. The startup aims to meet global food needs with this offering.

Nature of Disruption: Farmvent's two-meter tall, self-contained indoor farm leverages IoT, ML, data science, and LED lamps to grow more food with less effort. The startup claims that the farming process can use 90% less water and reduces the use of fertilizers and pesticides by 75%. It can produce less waste than traditional farming approaches and can aid as an in-store food production utility. The farming solution also eliminates the need to carry plants from a separate growing place while helping to reduce their carbon footprint by 90%. It offers consumers personalized harvesting solutions where they can harvest only if the products get sold. The indoor farm helps to keep herbs grow continually and remain fresh for long.

Outlook: The growing population looms a significant threat to global food security. At the same time, it has become essential to transgress to more sustainable ways as arable land gets affected by pests and diseases, rising temperatures, and climate change. FarmVent's smart farming solution offers plantations under the controlled hydroponic beds that can be housed on shelves within greenhouses. The multi-level space optimizable plantation can have particular advantages in urban areas. It can not only help to increase yields, reduce labor costs, and raise the profit margin of agro-businesses but also address global food challenges with less environmental impact.
