Oppy outlines sustainability achievements and roadmap

The fresh produce grower, marketer and distributor identified five specific areas to focus on throughout its supply chain going forward.

The Oppenheimer Group, also known as Oppy, has released a new sustainability report outlining some of its achievements and also five specific areas it plans to focus on throughout its supply chain going forward.

In the report, entitled “Expect the world from us,” the fresh produce grower, marketer and distributor says that some of its recent developments have included implementing multiple energy-savings measures which resulted in an annual reduction of 292 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents; calculating the total climate impact of every Oppy product in 2022 (in CO2 equivalents per year); partnering with additional food repurposing organizations to deliver surplus to people experiencing food insecurity while also mitigating food waste; establishing a more robust data collection process to track ongoing food waste reduction; and generating over $1.3 million in Fair Trade premiums in 2021, accounting for 11 per cent of total premiums by programs in North America.

Going forward, the Oppy report describes its five targeted areas as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, food waste, water use, packaging materials, and impact on people and communities.
