Do more in your greenhouse with less energy use

The Ohio State University is hosting a Greenhouse Management Workshop that will take place both in person (at the Shisler Center on the OSU Wooster campus) and virtually on Jan. 26-27, 2023. The theme is “More With Less Energy” and attendees can learn the fundamental and latest practices to reduce energy use for quality greenhouse crops, from the pros and cons of cool nights to lighting and temperature strategies to improve energy efficiency to research and commercial greenhouse tours.

The program breaks down into three parts:

Fundamentals

  • Carbon and water footprinting benchmarks to implement energy efficient floriculture crop production strategies
  • Growing crops with less energy – engineering fundamentals
  • Best management practices to control insect pests in greenhouses
  • Managing controlled environments to manage plant diseases

Investing in Technology

  • Approaches to improve energy usage efficiency and returns on investment
  • Energy conservation strategies for new construction and retrofit greenhouse projects
  • Rural Energy for America Program, energy efficiency improvement and renewable energy grants and loan guarantees
