Growing kale on a Tower Garden

Growing kale on a Tower Garden

Ron Finley (the 'gardening gangsta') once said: "Kids who grow kale, eat kale!"…

We like this quote: It could not be truer when it comes to children involved with helping their parents growing kale on a Tower Garden!

Kale is not only a leader in the world of leafy greens in terms of health benefits, it is one of the most rewarding and prolific crops to grow on a Tower Garden.

Put 3 to 4 seeds per rockwool - It will take a couple of weeks to germinate and about an extra couple weeks before being ready to be transplanted onto the tower. It generally takes about 3 weeks to 1 month after planting the seedling into the tower before being able to harvest the first leaves.

Kale is one of the utmost resistant crops when it comes to pests and diseases. Kale can still be the target fort for aphids, cabbage loopers, flea Beatles, and downy mildew, however, it has a much stronger natural defense mechanism than most other leafy greens.

Although kale prefers to grow in cooler climates, we have managed to grow kale outdoors in temperatures peaking up to 38°C. However, kale grown in hot temperatures tends to be bitter and this is why if you live in a hot climate, we advise against growing kale during the hot summer months…

When harvesting kale, you can either pull the whole plant out of the tower with its root system or alternatively, we recommend just pick the larger bottom leaves (always making sure that 3 to 4 leaves are left in the center to ensure regrowth of the plant) allowing you to enjoy ongoing harvests from the same plant for at least a couple month (depending on varieties).

In our experience, every variety of kale has been a successful crop to grow using Tower Garden technology.

We highly recommend growing kale using Tower Garden! Kale yeah!
