New generation to drive the fresh produce industry forward

New generation to drive the fresh produce industry forward

Linda Bloomfield, The Fresh Produce Consortium’s Head of Business Development explains why the UK needs fresh blood to secure the future of our food supply and to drive the industry forward.

“There’s an abundance of new talent out there,” explains Bloomfield.

“Today’s generation has a different mindset as a result of being born into a digital world. Not only can they supercharge your team by bringing a fresh perspective and new enthusiasm to your business, they also bring new technological capabilities that are vital for post-pandemic growth.

“Now, more than ever, with ongoing labour issues producing huge challenges for the industry, there needs to be a way to tap into a new generation of skillsets and creative thinking,” she continues.

FPC are concerned that many of today’s young people are unaware of the opportunities available to them through a career in the fresh produce and horticultural sectors.

With this in mind, the Consortium have developed FPC Careers, a trailblazing, free-to-attend event, showcasing the wide and varied career paths on offer in the fresh produce industry, including well paid and progressive graduate schemes, along with apprenticeship programmes, as well as full and part-time roles.

“Competition is fierce for the best candidates,” reveals Bloomfield.

“We work in close cooperation with the key Universities and colleges across the UK in order to provide our sector with a unique opportunity to meet with the best students who are willing and eager to learn new skills and keen to explore employment possibilities within our sector.

“The event also provides a fantastic opportunity for employers to showcase their jobs within the industry and to secure top talent for their businesses. Exhibitors at FPC Careers cover all aspects of the wider food and horticultural sectors, to include agritech, retail, hospitality and more," she adds.

“To maximise the experience, FPC Careers will host a range of fun and fulfilling activities, including a special ‘Mentor Me’ area, where students can meet for informal chats with industry leaders. There will also be a professional, complimentary headshot photograph service, allowing attendees to add impact to their CVs and to supercharge their job applications,” Bloomfield concludes.

FPC Careers will take place on Thursday 16 March 2023 at the East of England Arena, Peterborough.

Exhibitor and sponsor places are filling fast so employers are urged to contact Linda Bloomfield to secure their participation.
