Today, three Dutch growers and two educational institutions declared their intention to become part of the agri park that will be developed in Jiashan by signing a memorandum of understanding. In the coming years, China and the Netherlands will cooperate at this landing ground for Dutch firms on a sector-wide, strategic and operational basis. The joint venture Jiashan Greenport Sino-Dutch AgriTech Co. Ltd. was founded last July. As part of China Business Week, the seminar ‘Realising an agri park in Jiashan, China. The opportunity to participate!’ presented the next steps of the project and inspired companies in the horticulture sector to get involved.

BASF Vegetable Seeds/Nunhems BV, LANS Group, Koppert Cress BV, Lentiz Education Group and Wageningen University confirmed their intention to establish business models for the agri park in cooperation with the joint venture and the Dutch Greenhouse Delta foundation. The memorandum was signed in the presence of representatives of the Chinese province of Zhejiang and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.

Covering an area of approximately 400 hectares, the agri park will be the Chinese landing ground for top Dutch expertise from across the horticultural chain. Dutch Greenhouse Delta is the Dutch shareholder in the joint venture and represents its 20-plus affiliated partners. The business community will have the opportunity to showcase the most advanced horticultural technology and grow fresh food, flowers and plants in the agri park’s greenhouses. This produce can then be sold directly to the Chinese market, possibly via e-commerce companies such as Alibaba.

Suppliers from the entire horticulture cluster will join forces to realise the agri park and invest both money and manpower. That, in itself, is unparalleled. But what is also unique is that they will do so not as individual companies but as a collective.
