Within two years, the Moscow region plans to occupy the first place among all regions of Russia by production quantity of greenhouse vegetables, said Moscow’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Production Andrei Razin on Thursday.
“This year alone we have supplied our own demand for greenhouse vegetables at 100% and are now at third place overall in the country by quantity of active, new greenhouses. And that’s not all. It’s only a year or two more before the Moscow region will become a leader in the country by active greenhouse agricultural space” said Razin to journalists.
He also noted that the region has successfully created a breakthrough in greenhouse farming over the course of the last three years.
“Just literally three or four years ago we were somewhere between 35th and 40th place in the country. At the time, we were supplying our own region with just 3-4% of its demand for tomatoes and cucumbers”, the minister added.
