Internship Tomato Phenotyping, NL

Do you have an interest in plant breeding? Do you have an eye for detail? And do you like to analyze different plant phenotypes? If so, apply for this vacancy for Tomato Phenotyping at our office in De Lier, The Netherlands.

The internship Tomato Phenotyping at Rijk Zwaan
During the process of tomato breeding, large amounts of potential parent lines are developed. These could be used in an almost indefinite amount of testcrosses. The biggest challenge in hybrid breeding is to accurately predict the hybrid phenotype. Apart from hybrid prediction it is also important to zoom in on plant traits like QTLs or with even more detail; specific genes.
This internship at the Tomato Breeding department consists of two parts. The first part is to collect and analyze phenotypic data of hybrids coming from a population of crosses. This data will be used to predict which other possible combinations would give the best hybrid. In the second part you will work in detail on some traits, of which the genetics are not yet fully understood. The goal is to gather knowledge about these traits, determine the genetics and discover the causal QTLs. During this internship you are responsible for advancing these running breeding projects, by extensive phenotyping, hybrid prediction modelling and QTL mapping.
